Enabling Task Manager

Error message:
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.
Causes:
  1. Due to some virus effects.
  2. Intentionally disabled by the user/admin.
Solutions:

Method 1:

Before anything else, scan your system to see if it is infected by a virus. Use this step by step instruction, Virus Removal.

Method 2: (Not applicable with Windows XP Home Edition)
  1. Click Start > Run. Type in "gpedit.msc" (no quotes) and click OK.
  2. In the Group Policy settings window,
  • Select User Configuration
  • Select Administrative Templates
  • Select System
  • Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
  • Select Remove Task Manager
  • Double-click the Remove Task Manager option
Method 3: Registry Edit
  1. Click Start > Run. Type in "regedit" (no quotes) and click OK.
  2. Search for HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System.
  3. Look for: DisableTaskMgr. Click on REG_DWORD. Value: 1=Enable this key (disables TaskManager); Value: 0=Disable (actually enables TaskManager)
  4. Close RegEdit and Reboot your machine.
